I'm
an illustrator, and I love it, I truely do. I
wouldn't want to do anything else in the world. I regard
myself and others of my ilk as practitioners of a heritage
of pen and ink art dating back from before Hogarth.
I've been sketching ever since I can remember, looking
back now in honest truth I don't believe I could have followed
any other path except illustration.
For me the greatest illustrations are those that represent
a window into another world, where the viewer is transported
to a different or parallel reality.
What makes a good picture truly great has less to do with
technical prowess as graphic vision and imagination, whether
scribbled on the back of an envelope, plastered on an advertising
billboard or hung in a gallery.
Having worked as an illustrator for many years in the
Far East I feel I have a few insights into how different
cultures communicate. Part of the art of being an illustrator
is knowing intuitively how your work is perceived by the
public, of whatever culture.
I've never tried to pander to different markets, rather
I've been fortunate in that different markets have found
common interest in what I do.
